弗里曼戴森（FreemanJ.Dyson） 1924年出生于英国，1947年至 美国康奈尔大学作研究，1951年正式居留美国，1953年成为普林斯顿高等研究院物理学教授至今。

戴森教授不仅是位优秀的理 论物理学者，更是一位关心人类 命运、向往无限宇宙的睿智哲人。 一生优游数学、粒子物理、固态物 理、核子工程、生命科学、天文学 等领域，志在探索未知的世界。

戴森教授早年为量子电力学 的巨擘，与诺贝尔物理学奖擦肩 而过。1956年发表的《自旋波》论 文，迄今被引用至少675次，堪称 物理学史上的重量级论文之一。 戴森教授于普林斯顿高等研 究院服务40年。1993年8月号《科学美国人》的一篇专访，称他为“与主流成90°角前进的人”。即便 如此，戴森仍获得许多殊荣：伦敦 皇家学会休斯奖、德国物理学会 普朗克奖、奥本海默纪念奖、以色 列海法理工学院的哈维奖等。 戴森教授尚著有《宇宙波澜》、 《武器与希望》等书，在科学界与 一般读者中都激起极大的回响。
